Best Bets

R2/1- POUNDING

  • Drops down in grade back to a Listed level race after he has been competitive in Group 1 races in his past few starts. He gets conditions to suit him here which mixed with the class drop helps. He goes well on a GOOD track and he like Flemington having only missed the placings once in 5 starts here. Has a big weight but going well enough to handle that.

R3/2- AZTEC STATE

  • AZTEC STATE ran very impressively to win his debut at Bendigo. He came out next start at Caulfield and had no luck coming into the straight and was never a real chance after loosing all momentum. He goes up in trip to the 1800m now and onto a bigger track like Flemington which are both key things that should see him improve.

R4/1- BARBER (BEST OF DAY)

  • This is a much easier level of race than either of the other 2 runs BARBER has contested in Sydney earlier this prep. He clearly rates the highest in this field and he has been competitive against much stronger opposition such as OZZMOSIS who won Saturday’s Group1 Coolmore Stakes. BARBER will jump from barrier 9 and land in a good position, expecting he is very hard to beat here.

R6/9- PLATINUM WOLF (EW/VALUE OF THE DAY)

  • South Australian runner who is only very lightly raced but has showed very good signs early in his career. This is going to be the hardest test he has come up against at this stage of his career, but if he can get it right, he will be fighting out the finish. He takes a while to wind up when trying to finish, so a track like Flemington is going to be perfect for him. He was a winner 3rd up last prep and has won 2/4 over the 1400m trip, ticks both of this boxes here today.
